Number Two - 36"x 24"

This Contemporary SERIES are 36" x 24" and painted in Acrylic on Canvas. The positive Numeral in each in soft marble textured tones. These are contrasted by bolder, deep, rich crystallized colours in the negative areas of the Numeral. By pushing the Numeral out to the edges of the canvas, the effect becomes an Abstract Minimalist Painting in which the Number shape becomes less obvious on first look. 

I have come to this number imagery after many years of creating art and hope to inspire the viewer to think and wonder. This recent series incorporates the individual numeral from zero to nine as the basis of the entire artwork. Positive and negative space is defined to create a contemporary, expressive color field painting. I play with the paint and painting process in these defined spaces to create subtle but intriguing surfaces of color and texture that reveal more and more on each viewing.

Number Two people need to be needed. The symbolic meaning of TWO is kindness, balance, tact, and equalization. They want to be liked and have an exaggerated need for validation. Two can mean pair, couple, together and company. Florence Nightingale is perhaps the prototype of the mature TWO. NBA star Mozes Malone wore the No.2 on his sports jersey.
